Barwell Motorcycles
brings you the good news:
ON
YOUR BIKE
Monday, 30th October 2000
Motorcyclists will be exempt from any future congestion
charging in London.
The news follows the publication of Ken Livingstone's, the
Mayor of London's, draft transport strategy paper. The
comprehensive paper includes further details on how the
proposed congestion charging scheme will work within
London.
The transport strategy is opposed to the Government's
proposal to privatise London Underground. The Conservative
party and the Labour party have been supporting the part
privatisation of the Tube network. Liberal Democrats have a
long standing commitment to keep the Tube network in public
hands.
Jonathan Simpson, the Liberal Democrat Prospective
Parliamentary Candidate for Hampstead and Highgate, welcomed
the publication of the draft transport strategy:
"I am
delighted that Ken Livingstone has recognised the benefits of
biking by exempting motorcycles from his proposed congestion
charging scheme.
"Motorcycles are space and fuel efficient vehicles and great
way of avoiding congestion. The Government should be encouraging
more people out of their cars and onto bikes. The Mayor
should now increase the number of secure parking bays for
motorcycles throughout London".
Thank you Ken- if any one has commuted
into town recently I am sure you would agree that it is
a pleasure. Travelling down the Kennington Road with only
a couple of bikers for company makes my day!
